#MCM Style Inspiration - Trey Gaines
How would you describe your style?
I think that I have a very simple style. I love wearing cool band/artist tees and anytime I'm at a show I pick one up.
What are your staple items? Is there something that you couldn't live without?
Probably my Doc Martins because I can wear them to work or when I go out. They are super comfortable and match almost everything I own.
When you wake up in the morning, how do you decide what you're going to wear?
Its always a ten-minute-long process of me going through my laundry hampers trying to figure out what is clean. Haha this is my day to day routine but if it’s a special event I normally plan ahead of time what I’m going to wear.
Are there any inspirations for your style?
I really like Rebel 8, their clothing line always has really interesting designs. As a design student, that is something I look for when I’m shopping. I would say that my style is very similar to what you see other show-goers wearing, such as band tees, flannels, and lace-up boots.
What do you feel most comfortable wearing?
I’m honestly most comfortable when I’m dad-ing it up. Give me a soft t-shirt, a pair of shorts, and some flip-flops and I’m good.
What are your favorite brands/stores?
My jeans are always Levis because they last forever, each pair I purchase seriously lasts me at least three years before I have to throw them out. I also buy a lot of my stuff from online stores like Jack Threads because the clothes are cheap and pretty well made. I don’t shop by brands too much though, I am really just shopping for quality, price, and aesthetic.
What accessories do you always seem to pair with your outfits? (watches, etc.)
With Summer coming up, I’m always going to have a pair of sunglasses on me. I don’t wear many other accessories expect for a watch whenever I’m dressing up.
What advice do you have for other guys that would like to achieve a similar style?
Wear whatever the fuck you want. Besides cargo shorts. Never cargo shorts.
Is there a favorite color that you always end up incorporating into your outfit? (i.e. you always end up wearing a lot of black or blue)
I always go for pretty simple colors: black, white, or something neutral. Bright colors don’t really match my personality.
If we could go through your family photos and see a photo documentary of your style phases, which style phase would be the most embarrassing? We’ve all had them!
I use to be really into Ecko and Southpole, really anything that I could find at TJ Maxx. I also use to rock a silver chain around my neck because I wasn’t playing no games. I use to own those pants that you could zip off in order to turn them in to shorts. I was obviously on the cutting edge of early 2000 fashion.
