Please Let Me Make Something Beautiful
Things you should know before reading this post. I’m not a writer. I ramble a lot. And at one point in time I thought I didn’t have much to say, but here I sit watching The Hallmark Channel, don’t ask, and writing a post. Also, I stole the title of this article, blog, post, whatever you want to call it, from an artist named Ben Rector. It’s off his latest album “Brand New” which is currently on repeat for me. This isn’t a post about that song in particular, but just that one line “Please let me make something beautiful…”
March 2016 I got fired from my job at a coffee shop that I will leave unnamed. Needless to say, that sucked. A lot. I started looking for other jobs, but I needed something right then and there to make money, (that wasn’t illegal), because you know, bills don’t stop coming just because you’re not making money. While looking for another job, I decided that I wanted to take a chance on a passion that has always struck my interest. Photography. I’ve always had a lingering curiosity about this art, and I decided to just dive right in and learn along the way. I started asking friends and family if I could take pictures of them for practice, and it just took off from there. Every person, family, event, and adventure has been a journey that has helped me learn about those I love, learn more about myself, and also meet some amazing people that I never would’ve met if I didn’t explore this passion of mine.
I just want to be a light to others, and, for repetition sake, I want to make something beautiful, and engage others in the process as I go. My main goal is to put out a message of hope, and faith, so that others will follow their convictions in life like I did, and go live! Whatever your passion may be, whether it is photography like me, music, teaching, accounting, retail; just do what you love, and give it your all! If it makes you happy, forget what others say and just go for it. For me personally, I have been through jobs and positions that I loved, but also those that have made me miserable. While I am very happy with the lessons that I took from those points in my life, I’ve never been happier than I am right now, literally being able to capture life’s moments, and helping impact other people’s lives through the whole expedition!
Disclaimer: This is not easy. The path is full of uneven pavement, and potholes. It’s more than a learning process, and a patience tester. There have been times when I have fallen and had to pick myself back up, and lean on those I love to help me through. And, just to be candid, I’m scared shitless. What will the future hold? Will I fail? I just keep remembering that I can’t afford to not try this. Not financially, but for myself. I deserve to give this my all.
So, while I’m challenging myself, I would like to challenge you. Yes you! I want you to go out and do you. Yes, you may fail, but that certainly doesn’t mean that you should give up. It’s just an opportunity to gather more drive and pick up and keep going. Never assume that you are stuck doing what you are currently doing in life. Don’t settle for being complacent. Strive to do something magnificent. Take a chance on the unknown. Spread positivity, jump in wholeheartedly with your dignity intact. Live your life, because all the sayings are true, you only get one. Work for the moment when you are in the later years of your life, and you can look back and laugh and smile about what you did. No one wants to look back and wonder what would have happened if… so just do it! Where's Shia LaBeouf when you need him?
Go out and make something beautiful.
Go out and create.
